  • WIDA ScreenerTest that is used to determine the initial eligibility for English language development services for multilingual learners in grades K–12.

  • OSPI-Developed AssessmentsWashington state developed classroom-based assessments (CBAs) for the ArtsEducational TechnologyHealth and Physical Education, and Social Studies based on the state's learning standards to help guide day-to-day instruction. State curriculum specialists create tasks and questions that model good assessments and provide them to local school districts.
  • Dyslexia Screening: In accordance with state requirements (RCW: 28A.320.260), all students in grades K–2 are screened annually for indicators of dyslexia. Our district utilizes the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessment to identify students who may be at risk. This early screening tool helps educators monitor foundational reading skills and determine which students may benefit from targeted interventions and support. Here is a Dyslexia Fact Sheet from the state for more information. Additional information can be found at OSPI.

Students in 2nd and 5th grade will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screener

Purpose of Assessment: The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screener appraises the cognitive development of students by measuring students’ learned reasoning abilities in the three symbol systems most closely related to success in school: Verbal reasoning, Quantitative reasoning, and Nonverbal reasoning.

The test acts as a universal screener for our Highly Capable/Gifted program. In addition, it can be used by the classroom teachers to:

  1. To guide efforts to adapt instruction to the needs and abilities of students.
  2. To provide a measure of each student’s level of cognitive development that captures important information not represented in school grades or in other measures of school achievement.
  3. To identify students whose predicted levels of achievement are markedly discrepant from their observed levels of achievement.

If the screener identitifies the student as a potential Highly Capable/Gifted students, they may be tested using the full CogAT. You will be contacted by the HiCap Coordinator Jennifer Gilliland if your student needs further testing.

  • NWEA MAP Assessments

Students in grades K–10 participate in NWEA MAP assessments in Mathematics and Reading, while students in grades 3–11 are assessed in Science. These nationally normed, adaptive assessments provide critical data that support our ability to analyze student performance at the local level. The results inform instructional planning, identify areas for academic intervention, and help us better understand individual student needs.
