Budget Briefs

Hello, I appreciate your interest in the budget situation of our district and your willingness to get the necessary information to fully participate in the discussion on how we will respond.  

Some background information that is important to have as a starting point.

1.      The state has cut funds to K-12 schools for the past 3 years.

a.       Our district has cut $1.6 million over this timeframe.

b.      We are estimating at least a cut of $700,000 for this year.

c.       We are bracing for additional cuts to come in the 2011-13 biennial budget.

d.      Salaries make up 80% of our district budget.  Staff cuts are inevitable!

With that good news on the table, I want you to know that your school board is working with the district to ensure that through all of these cuts, we do our best to maintain the quality programs and teaching staff that serves your students.  Their direction to me has been to provide them with options that protect direct services to students as much as possible.  The Board and I will be working together to provide the best options for our schools that we can. 

We will be coming to the community for your input as we go through this process. You can expect a parent forum sometime between now and the first week in March. 

Again I want to thank you for your involvement in this process.   I am sure that together we will come up with the best plan for the circumstances we are in.
