2008 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony and Dance

Adobe PDF version

May 10, 2008

Dear Ki-Be 8th Graders and Parents:

This year, Kiona Benton Middle School 8th grade students will be participating in a promotion ceremony. This should provide an exciting culmination for our 8th grade class and acknowledgment of their hard work throughout elementary and middle school years before moving up to the high school. We hope all students will be sure eligibility requirements are met in order to participate in these activities.

In order to participate in 8th grade year-end activities, including the dance, and promotional ceremony, all students must be passing 5 out of 7 classes going into the final week of school. The parents of students who do not meet this criterion will be notified individually. Parents should check with their students regularly if there is a problem in this area to avoid last-minute disappointment. Another requirement for participation is good citizenship in order to participate in of any the promotion activities listed above.

You should also be aware that your student is responsible for all textbooks and non-consumable class materials issued to him/her; therefore, materials must be returned or paid for before a student will be allowed to attend any end-of-the-year activities.

The last requirement for students to participate in the promotion ceremony and dance is to attend the promotion ceremony rehearsal on June 11, during the last period of the day. June 10th and 11th are early release days. Students will be released at noon.

Kiona Benton 8th grade Promotion Ceremonies will be held in the MS gym on June 11, 2008, 6:00 pm-8:00pm with a cake and punch family reception immediately following. 8th grade students are then invited to attend the promotion dance party from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm following the reception.

As formal wear is not considered appropriate for the promotion dance and ceremony, and in order to minimize parent expense, dress for the students is as follows:

Boys Dress: Boys should wear a nice shirt and pants or slacks, a tie is optional.
Girls Dress: Girls should wear a dress or nice outfit.
Dress code rules apply for this event as for all school activities (no spaghetti straps, bare midriff, etc)

Once again, our intent at promotion is to celebrate each student's success. We hope every member of the eighth grade class satisfies the eligibility requirements and is able to participate in the end-of-the-year program and activities.

We look forward to a memorable culminating week for our 8th graders.

Sincerely,

Vance Wing, Principal

Kim Mahaffey, Dean of Students
