Levy Facts

  • A Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Levy is used to fund day-to-day operations of District schools not funded by the State, including additional staff, textbooks, instructional materials, maintenance and custodial supplies, utilities, transportation, food service and student activities such as athletics and music.
  • This proposed levy is NOT a new tax. It WILL REPLACE the current levy that was passed in April of 2004, which will expire December 31, 2008. It WILL NOT be added to the current levy.
  • The proposed levy will provide M & O funding for Kiona-Benton City Schools beginning January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.
  • The levy for the 2008 school year is $1,609,167. The proposed levy for the 2009 school year will be $1,883,462 and $2,024,722 for the 2010 school year.
  • The District has experienced reduced funding from State and Federal sources. Enrollment has declined so that the District can no longer rely on growth revenue to fund extra costs.
  • PASSAGE OF LEVY WILL ASSURE THAT THE DISTRICT WILL RECEIVE APPROXIMATELY $908,479 FROM THE STATE EACH OF THE TWO YEARS
  • Some senior citizens may qualify for a total tax exemption from the payment of special levy taxes. For more information call the County Assessor’s Office at 736-3088.
